Midwives are among those giving service in maternal and child health programs, and are in contact with groups of pregnant & lactation women. In order to determine the midwives knowledge about drug usage in pregnancy and lactstion, this survey was carried out on all midwives of Kerman city ( n =69) in June 1995, using a questionnaire based on the commonly Iran used 39.1℅ of midwives were technicians, 46.4℅ holders of bachelor degree 8.7℅ midwife nurses, 4.3℅ holders of master degree and 1.4℅ unknown. Mean age of midwives was 30.9 +_  6.7 years and mean duration of their employment was 7.6 +_ 6.1 years with a median of 6 years. 92.8℅ were working in governmental centers and 7.2℅ in private centers. The highest and least knowledge about drug usage in pregnancy was related to ferrous- sulfate with mean score of 1.84 +_ 0.44 and hyoscine with mean score of -0.13 +_1.58 respectively. The highest and least knowledge about drug usage in lactation were related to acetaminophen with mean score of 0.8 +_0.61 and imipramine with mean score of -0.52 +_ 0.86. the analysis of variance ( ANOVA) of data showed no significant statistical relationship between the midwives knowledge about drug usage in pregnancy  and lactstion, with age, education, and duration of employment. The results indicated that 20℅ of midwives  had no knowledge about drug usage in pregnancy and 51℅ had no knowledge about drug usage in lactation, therefore there seem to be a need for more training programs for midwives.}, keywords = {knowledge, drug usage,Pregnancy,Lactation,Midwife,Kerman}, url = {https://jkmu.kmu.ac.ir/article_38712.html}, eprint = {https://jkmu.kmu.ac.ir/article_38712_331c1ead9647b93ac32a1d57f4bcf3c7.pdf} } @article { author = {Zohori, F and GHafari, S}, title = {The influence of maternal age, spacing and number of pregnancies on birth weight and height}, journal = {Journal of Kerman University of Medical Sciences}, volume = {2}, number = {2}, pages = {165-168}, year = {1995}, publisher = {Kerman University of Medical Sciences}, issn = {1023-9510}, eissn = {2008-2843}, doi = {}, abstract = {In this study the relation between maternal age, spacing number of pregnancies and birth weight and height was evaluated 1000 newborns in Fatemeh hospital in Hamedan. Also infants born from mothers, how had less than 24 months interval between pregnancies weight less and were shorter in height than newborns from mothers how had more than 24 mothers between pregnancies. The number of students in these schools were about 600, at the age of 7-10 years, including a boys school, and a girls school located at the eastern part  of Bagh sarasiab, in the Suburb of Kerman city as the experimental group and also a boys school and a girls school at the western part of the same village, 4 km away treated with recommended doses of metronidazole or furazolidone. After duration of 4 and 6 weeks fecal samples were taken and the infected students were treated for the second or third time by same drugs, so that no evidence of giardiasis was observed at this stage. About 300 students in 8 educational classes including 4 boys classes; each with a capacity of 36 students were taught basic health matters as a systematic educational program, for a period of 6 months. Six months after termination of classes, the feces of all students were reexamined. In general, the extent of infection in the educated students was decreased about 2.5℅ as compared to the control group. From the statistical point of view, there was neither a significant difference between educated and non educated boys or girls, nor between the total educated and uneducated groups. However the average score for knowledge in educated students was significantly different from that of the control students . The main problem in the lack of full success was probably due to insufficient cooperation of parents and other members of the family, who have an important role in transmission and propagation of the infection.}, keywords = {Health Education,Giardia lamblia,Prevention,School Children}, url = {https://jkmu.kmu.ac.ir/article_38714.html}, eprint = {https://jkmu.kmu.ac.ir/article_38714_3c23e3dc03ce6e137b7f47ce709862c0.pdf} } @article { author = {Moshtaghi, S.A.A and Soltani kohpaei, A}, title = {The effects of chromium and cadmium on the activity of alkaline phosphatase lsoenzmes in rats}, journal = {Journal of Kerman University of Medical Sciences}, volume = {2}, number = {2}, pages = {177-182}, year = {1995}, publisher = {Kerman University of Medical Sciences}, issn = {1023-9510}, eissn = {2008-2843}, doi = {}, abstract = {The aim of this study was to Investigate the toxic effects of chromium and cadmium on the activity of two isoenzymes of alkaline phosphatase in vitro and in vivo experiments. Blood pressure, weight and height were measured on day one ( baseline) ,also fasting blood samples were analyzed on day 1,14 and 28 for triglycerides, cholesterol, glucose and electrolytes. By the end of Ramadan, blood cell count, blood glucose, area, creatinine, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein v( HDL) ,Na, K , albumin and indirect bilirubin did not change comparing today one: however body weight, body mass index, systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly ( p<0.001), and hemoglobin, hematocrit, uric acid, CA, direct bilirubin and low density lipoprotein cholesterol increased as compared with baseline values. The purpose of this study was  evaluate the effects of thirteen different plants on arginase, creatin kinase, amylase and lipase activities in serum of diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced in 70 adult male albino rats by intraperitoneal injection of 175 mg/ kg body weight of alloxan. Rats were divided into 14 groups. Thirteen of which consumed a complex of normal pelletes diet supplemented with the amounts, equal to 6.25℅ of their weight with different plants including coriander, walnut leaf, fenugreek, garlic, celery, coriander seed, pomegrenate, lemon, madder, poly- germander, carrot, onion and fumotory for 15 days. An additional group which was diabetic but received no plant diet, was selected as the positive control, and a healthy group was chosen as the negative control. The enzyme activities of the above sera was measured and the results were as follow. No significant difference in arginase or creatine kinase activities were observed among the negative, positive and experimental groups. Amylase activity was significantly lower in positive control group compared to the negative control.
