preliminary activities of this study was conducted in the city of Kerman from 1991 to 1994 to carry out a control program on hydatid infection.a total of 6500 stary dogs were killed by bullets or baited with strychnine.of which 4500 dogs were killed during 1993 through spring of 1994 and rest during 1994 in rural and urban areas of the city of Kerman.simultaneously,276 pet digs and sheep dogs were treated once every six months with praziquantel for a period of one year.the average infection rate was 5% in 1993,however there was no significant difference between the values in four seasons.in contrast ,a decreasing trend was observed in infection rate from spring(5%) through winter(1.5%) of 1994.there was a sharp drop in the prenalence of infection in sheep in winter of 1994,while in goats this reduction appreared earlier:it started in summer to the end of winter of the same year.a steady decreasing trend in the rate of hydatid infection in slaughtered animals was observed during 1994(5.4% in April 1994 and 0.5% in March 1995).although this study is limited to the city of Kerman,it is more or less indicative of condition and distribution of infection in the country.any similar attempt that eliminates dogs in the life cycle of this parasite, will reduce the incidence of hydatid disease in humans and animals.

life organs would be effected by different physiological pathways caused by stress.continuous stress could render the body vulnerable to various diseases.in this study the basal level of plasma ACTH was measured as probable indicator of stress in different occupational groups, namely medical and non-medical professionals.the findings indicated that basal level of plasma ACTH was significantly higher in medical professionals (17.4+_3.4pg/ml) compared with non-medical participants(15.1+_3.9pg/ml)(p<0.005) and also between married and numarried groups(p<0.005)(16.7+_3.7,15.4+_3.7pg/ml respectively).after the elemination of intervening factors such as administration of drugs like corticostroids and antidepressants, presence of systemic or endocrine diseases, smoking, alcohism, and stress causing activities, such as being on call at night, the results pointed to the chronic stresses, such as occupatinal stress or marital stress,as the reason for the increase in basal level of plasma ACTH.it is worth noting that this phenomenon can cause other pathologic complications of stress, threrfore further studies about chronic stresses is warranted.

heterophyidsis is a common disease in man and animals(Zoonosis),the causative agents are small parasites of 1-2mm from the family of heterophyidae(trematodes)and often has a world-wide prevalence.this study was performed with the objective to determine the prevalence rate and identify the reservoirs of heterophyidae in man during the years 1991-1993 in Khuzestan province.in order to do this in a cross-sectional study with the method of simple randomzation a total of 984 persons in the rural areas were examined for infection with heterophyidae ova in their stools by formalin-ether concentration technique.the finding indicated that 19 persons(1.9%) were infected with the ova of the trematode.in order to find the animal reservoirs a total of 45 careases of carnivors were examined including:dog, jackal, fox, cat, wild cat, wildpigs and wolf.a total of 37.8% of the careases were infected with Haplorchis taichui,H.pumilio and stellantchasmus falcatus.this is the first time that these parasites have been reported in Iran, and they could be considered a public health problem in this region.

breast-milk is the best food for infants and protects them from many diseases.in order to investigate the quality of breast-feeding promotion programms a survey was performed with the help of a questionnaire prepared by UNICEF ,titled as self assessment of maternity hospitals and other hospitals.the findings are as follow:none of the hospitals had a specific procedure to evaluate the efforts for breast-feeding promotion.16 hospitals (94%) had a clear policy for protecting, promoting, and supporting breast-feeding.although 15 hospitals (88%) declared that their staff members have become familiar with the policy of breast-feeding,only in 8 hospitals(47%) all staff members have been trained at the beginning, only 9 hospitals (53%) had prenatal care clinic for pregnant mothers.the interest of mothers for breast-feeding were evaluated during the period of anesthetic drug usage in only 8 hospitals(47%).in 13 hospitals (76%),the skin contact of mother and baby have been started in the first half hour of normal veginal delivery, and staff of midwifery ward have helped the mothers in breast-feeding during the first hour of delivery.in 15 hospitals (88%),mothers were taught how to embrace their babies in a correct way and in 11 hospitals(65%) mothers who hadnot breast-feed before or they had problems in breast-feeding,had received special care.in 8 hospitals (47%),exclusive breast-feeding was held, although using formula bottle and pacifier was officially prohibitels, but in two hospitals.the policy was not put in action, and no related training was done.rooming -in was considered an hour after the mother became conscious from normal vaginal delivery in 16 hospitals(94%) and for cesarean section in only 7 hospitals (58%).none of the hospitals had any specific procedure to evaluate and monitor the efforts for promotion of breast-feeding and no group had been established to support the breast-feed mothers.in conclusion the major problem in these hospitals in relation to promotion of breast0feeding is lack of any evaluation system to measure such efforts.also no supportive groups were formed in Kerman for breast-feeding and the hospitals did not have programs to follow up the mothers and help them with breast-feeding after they leave the hospitals.

gallbladder torsion is a rare surgical emergency that can not be differentiated from acute cholecystitis.this condition occurs primarily in elderly women, although it may be encountered in early adulthood of both sexes.the anatomic background is based on variation in the attachment of the gallbladder to the inferior surface of the liver,if a patient with the diagnosis of acute cholecystitis dose not respond quickly to non invasive interventions,it would be essential that he/she be operated upon as soon as possible, since diagnosis of gallbladder torsion prior to surgery through physical examinations and laboratory tests is difficult.in this article, two cases of patients, one adult man and another an elderly women, with gallbladder torsion are reported.
