Seventy one percent of patients were male.with an average age of 37.2 +_ 0.9 years in which 61℅ had backache for many years ( average 3.5 +_  2.1 year) before experiencing root pain, and in 54℅ of them backache started following a heavy weight lifting or heavy job. 29℅ of patients were female with an average age of 41.1+_8.4 years in which 69℅ had backache for an average of 5.7+_3.2 years before back experiencing root pain and in 11℅ of them backache started following  a heavy job. Worker incidence of back pain prevalence was 41℅ housewives 21℅ , sedentary employees 19℅, drivers 12℅, and others 7℅ . The commonest indications for operation were, backache in association with root pain not relieved by rest in 91.5℅ atrophy and motor disturbancise in 7℅, sphincteric disturbances in 1.5℅ . There percent of patients had backache with no root pain. 29℅ of patients had root pain only. S.L.R were positive in 65.2℅ and 61℅ had H4- L5, P.I.D. and in 25.3℅ disc was bilateral and 32℅ of patients had dick herniation at two levels. Complete recovery from root pain was seen in 84℅ of patients post.op. 16℅ of patients had partial recovery or faced with complications.5℅ of patients found to have another pathology rather than disc such as focal abscess, tumor, hydatid cyst, and congested veins. The key success to this operation found to be in correct of patients. In this case control study, the therapeutic effect of Thio- Ben ( combination of thioxolon and benzoxonium chloride) was compared to intralesional meglumine antymoniate ( glucantime) treatment. Two groups of patients were chosen at random, first group ( test, n1= 19) were treated with topical Thio- - Ben, while the second group ( control, n=17) were given meglumine antymoniate, which is the common treatment for CL. After six weeks, the results showed that thirteen of the subjects from each group responded well to the treatment. No statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups. Therefore, we can conclude that the treatment with topical Thio-Ben is at least as effective as intralesional treatment with glucantime. However, since topical treatment with Thio-Ben is more convenient than intralesional treatment with glucantime, we recommend the former as the treatment of choice for cutaneous leishmaniasis ( CL).}, keywords = {Cutaneous leishmaniasis, meglumine antymoniate, benzoxonium chloride, thioxolone, treatment}, url = {https://jkmu.kmu.ac.ir/article_38704.html}, eprint = {https://jkmu.kmu.ac.ir/article_38704_a910eda15e514d07db2200aa3e7fcdec.pdf} } @article { author = {Eskandari, H and Kamyabi, A and Soleimani, F}, title = {The correlation between blood leukocyte count and the level of consciousness in head injured patients}, journal = {Journal of Kerman University of Medical Sciences}, volume = {2}, number = {1}, pages = {15-21}, year = {1995}, publisher = {Kerman University of Medical Sciences}, issn = {1023-9510}, eissn = {2008-2843}, doi = {}, abstract = {This study was performed to define the correlation between the level of consciousness based on Glasgow coma scale ( GCS), Glasgow outcome scale( GOS) and leukocyte count. The purpose of this study was to achieve an understanding and knowledge about the pattern of the accident,s casualties in the city of Kerman. During one year period ( 1994-1995) all in- patient and out- patient cases referred to the emergency department of Shahid Bahonar hospital ( the only surgical emergency department in the city of Kerman) were evaluated. RTC accounted for 11.9℅ of all casualties. Out of 2304 victims, 56℅ were under 25 years, 24℅ were under 15 years, and 52℅ between 15 and 35 years old. None of those involved in accidents were wearing seat belt or other safety devices at the time of the accident, which they should have used according to the law. Over half of the children injured were pedestrians. The annual overall incidence rate of city RTC was 7.4(95℅ confidence interval ( CI) 7.1,7.2) per 1000 person. The annual incidence of RTC in men (11.9/1000:95℅  CI 11.3,12.4) was significantly higher than the rate in women (2.7/1000: 95℅ CI 2.4,2.9) the ratio of male to female was 4.6. Car drivers , car passengers, pedestrians. Motorcyclists and bicyclists were the most common victims respectively. Most of the bicycle accidents involved children. There was an increased risk of injury for young car drivers and motorcyclists. Car and motorcycle were dominated among injury inducing vehicles. Soft tissue injuries and fractures were most common. Other studies have shown that the introduction of seat belt legislation and stricter law enforcement should lead to a rapid reduction in mortality and morbidity on the road accidents.
