the precise pharmacological of chronic use of opium on serum level of gonadotropins and male sex hormones are not studied extensively.this study was performed to investigate the changes in these parameters is opium addicted men.the blood samples of 46 opium addicts and 39 normal men were taken ,and the testosterone ,LH and FSH levels in serum were measured by radioimmunoassay (RID) technique using a LKB gamma counter.the results of this study showed that the serum testosterone in opium addicts were decreased significantly compared to the controls(p<0.01).this reduction was directly proportional to the duration of opium usage.the LH and FSH levels in opium addicts showed also significant reduction compared to the controls(p<0.01 & p<0.05 respectively). in summary the chronic use of opium can cause significant changes in endorcine reproductive functions including hypothalamic- hy pophyseal gonadal axis.

the Epidemiology of normal pregnancies with unknown last menstrual period (LMP) was studied in 1192 singleton pregnancies.the LMP was unknown in 240(20.3%) pregnancies.unknown LMP is associated with high rates of low birth weight and all low socio-economic and socio-demographic status.such characteristics are also associated with a high rate of preterm deliveries.any possible bias introduced in studies prematurity by ignoring the group of women with unknown LMP should be carefully checked.

in order to measure the conentration of lead in air of six Kerman gasoline stations,10 air samples were collected from each between 8:30-12:30 a.m. and then analyzed .lead conentration was determined by atomic absorption spectrometers.the maximum and minimum of lead conentration were 0.833mg/m3 and 0.41mg/m3 in Khorshid and shahab gasoline stations, respectively.all of the samples were compared with a control station in which the concentration of lead ranged from 0.084mg/m3 to 0.166mg/m3.the daily peak lead conentration was between 9:30-12:30a.m.the mean value in all six stations, was significantly higher than control.in addition, lead conentration in all gasoline stations were lower than lead,s TLV in workplace due to lack of inversion phonimenon in Kerman city.

candidiasis is one of the commonest causes of vaginitis.different treatment have been suggested for this disease.oral itraconazole is one of the newest medications.to evaluate the antifungal activity of this drug in vaginal candidiasis, this study was performed on a random sample of patients.fifty patients with vaginal candidiasis confirmed by direct examination and culture, were treated by a single doseof 400 mg of oral itraconazole.only 32 could be followed and 18 patients (36%) were omitted from the study because of attrition.complete recovery was observed in 53.1% partial recovery in 43.8% and no recovery in 3.1%.no side effects appeared and complementary laboratory examinations were normal both before and 14 days after discontinuing the treatment.taking into consideration the methodological limitations of this study,it can be concluded that the suggested single dose treatment can probably be effective in the treatment of vaginal canddidiasis.

the missing of any tooth is due to undeveloped dental lamina that possible is caused by genetic factors such as ectodermal dysplasia, local infection and systemic diseases.in some cases, the lack of teeth is so wide that causes undevelopment in all premanent teeth which is known as comlete anodontia.the lack of lateral incisors causes speech defect, difficulty in breathing, spacing in other teeth, deviation in midline of jaw, malocclusion class III and esthetic problems in the patient.if this promleb is nothced in early childhood,it can be controlled by closing the spaces between the teeth.about 909 elementary students (boys and girls) from 14 different schools in Kerman city took part in this study.among these students,7 boys and 5 girls that make the total of 12 students(1.3%) were found with missing lateral incisors.

Exposure and emotional processing

the effectiveness of exposure treatment for different types of anxiety disorders has been well established.overall, effective techniques to reduce fear or anxiety involve exposing the patient to distressing situation until he/she adapts to situation.desensitization, flooding, implosion, modeling, cagnitive rehearsal, and even some traditional strategies can all be viewed as variations of the technique exposure.whereas variables which influence efficacy of exposure(e.g. duration of sessions)have been investigated extensively, less is known about the processes which take place during this therapy.three models have been discussed in this respect:1) Eysenck,s model which emphasizes the role of incubation/enhancement as a possible mechanism:2) bio-informational theory of lang which stresses that a fear is presented in long-term memory as a network of propositionally coded information:and 3) emotional processing of fear which emphasizes exposure to corrective information.these models have been analyzed and evaluated.in conclusion, some practical implications of constructive and planned exposure to feared situations in real life, have been discussed.
