Tests of autonomic function were performed in 31 patients with non-alcoholic cirrhosis and 30 healthy subjects. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to child- Pugh,s classification ( A.B.C). The patients with moderate and severe cirrhosis( child B,C) had significant parasympathetic disturbance ( in the valsalva ratio) and the patients with sever cirrhosis( child C) had significant sympathetic disturbance in the forearm isometric exercise and cold pressed test. This results in severe cirrhosis which may contribute to the hemodynamic disturbances of cirrhosis.

Serum copper was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometry and ceruloplasmin was determined by a caloric enzymatic assay. The concentration of serum copper in the test group was 93+_20.4 mg/ DL which was significantly lower than that of the control (99.2+_21.1 mg/ DL). In contrast the serum level of ceruloplasmin in the test group was 20.4+_4.94 mg/ DL which was significantly greater than that of the control group (16.54+_3.16 mg/ dl). There was a positive correlation between the copper & ceruloplasmin level as plotted for either test or the control group. The equation for regression lines were different, suggesting that extrapolation of one parameter ( either copper or ceruloplasmin) is possible only under special circumstances.

The dialysis results in the elimination of waste materials like urea and creatinine from the body, on the other hand, it can affect the serum contamination of the dialysis fluid. Aluminium is one of trace elements which its serum level increases in patient undergoing hemodialysis. This increase of serum concentration of aluminium, effects the metabolism of iron. In this study, the serum level of aluminium and zinc in patients subjected to hemodialysis were evaluated. The subjects were 56 hemodialysis patient and the control were 36 healthy appearing people. Aluminium and zinc serum concentration determined using flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy. The results indicated that: 1) the mean serum concentration of aluminium( 0.272+_0.128 ppm) shows a significant increase in the patient group, compared with the control group (0.016+_0.005 ppm) ( p<0.05).
2) the mean serum concentration of zinc (0.806+_0.177 ppm) in these patients shows no significant increase compared with control group (0.767+_0.159 ppm).

The in vitro inhibitory effect of ceftizoxime on P. mirabilis, P. Aeruginosa, S.prophyticus and E.coli was found to be more than other bacteria. Whereas S, aureus was more nsitive to cephalothin in comparison with ceftizoxime. The minimal inhibitory and lethal concentration MIC & MBC of ceftizoxime on bacterial isolated was determined by tube dilution method. The lowest of drug was needed to inhibit / kill P. Mirabilis and K. Pneumoniae, whereas the highest level was found for P. Aeruginose. The inhibitory effect of ceftizoxime on the bacterial isolates and it's comparison with other antibiotic tested, demonstrates the broad spectrum of activity of ceftizoxime and the resistant bacterial strains were not developed against this antibiotic in the area so far.

The determine the effect of position on echocardiographic diagnosis of MVP, we examined 693 consecutive patients referred to the echocardiography laboratory because of suspected MVP. First, patients were examined using the usual standard M-Mode echocardiography( left parasternal third or fourth intercostal space, supine or left decubitus) and two dimensional echocardiography ( apical 4 chamber view, parasternal long axis view). Echocardiography on erect position was performed in patients with normal standard echocardiogram (M-MODE and two- dimensional). On the basis of echocardiographic results, three groups of patients were compared: group 1: 201 patients with MVP on standard echocardiogram had mid systolic click= MSC(53.7℅) and late systolic murmur = LSM(29.4℅) in auscultation. Group 2: 247 patients with MVP on erect position had MSC(15.4℅) and LSM(4.9℅),( p<0.001, compared with group 1). Group 3:245 cases without MVP on any position had MSC (4.1℅) and LSM (0.8℅), compared with group 1&2). The results of the study show that: 1: standard echocardiography is the best method for diagnosis of MVP. 2: echocardiography on erect position is a valuable method in patients with MSC or LSM in auscultation without MVP on standard echocardiography.3: combined echocardiography and auscultation improves accuracy of MVP diagnosis.

Since research and information about caring has implications for improving maintenance of the quality of caring performance, this study was inducted to compare the importance of caring behaviours in professional nurses and in- patients in medical & surgical wards. Fifty patients and equal number of nurses were interviewed. Q sort methodology as used for data collection. The statistical test used to analyse the data was man Whitney U test. The results showed that the highest mean rank( 39/85 & 5/43) to behaviour nurse asks the provides treatment order on time; and the lowest mea rank( 10/13& 5/43) to behaviour" nurse asks the patients what name she/ he prefers to be called" by patients and nurses respectively. In the least important ten items, five were common to both groups and in the most important ten items, five were common to both groups. Comparison of caring behaviours showed significant differences between two groups in the rating of 15 of 50 caring behaviours. Agreement was shown between patients and nurses on more than 2/3 behaviours and disagreement was shown on less than 1/3 behaviours.

Midwives are among the trainer's of family planning programs who have direct contact with the group of women in reproductive ages. This survey was carried out on all married midwives of Kerman city ( n=57) in July 1994, in order to determine their knowledge, attitude and practice about family planning using questionnaire prepared by investigators. Among the respondents: 40.3℅ were technicians,47.4℅ were bachelor's and 12.3℅ were midwives nurses. Mean age of midwives was 32=8.3 years and mean age of their husbands was 35+_8.6. mean duration of their employment was 6+_4 for technicians and bachelors, and 20+_10 years for midwife nurses. Mean age of first marriage was 23.6+_3. Mean age first pregnancy was 24.6+_3.4. mean number of their children was 1.6, and median was 2. Mean of birth spacing between last two deliveries was months, of which, one third were less than 3 years. All (100℅) agreed with family planning programs, 82.4℅ had used one or more methods of contraception, the most common method being I.U.D (21℅) .all (100℅) were familiar with at least 4 contraceptives methods. Unfortunately about one third of them did not know the correct pattern of using oral contraceptive pills.o verall, knowledge, attitude and practice of family planning in midwives seem to be better than other studied groups, however they are in need of more training programs.

These associated movements attributed to abnormal connections between the central mechanisms innervating the pterygoid and elevator muscles. Sometimes this anomaly is associated with dual,s retraction syndrome, duplex kindneys and ureters. This case is a report of an association between mitral valve prolapse and marcus-gunn phenomenon.
