Abstract

this study  Evaluation the physiological activity effects of thyroid glands on the process of development and growth of ovaries and reproductive organs in rats.the study also investigates the adverse effects of antithyroid compounds adminidtered to mothers during lactation period on the developmental process of the newborn rat,s reproductive organs and the level of sexual hormones.the early and reversible hypothyroidism were induced in newborn rat,s viaPTU(propylthiouracil) solved in mothers, drinking water in order to study the development of reproductive organs.the results indicated a significant decrease(p<0.0001) in the weight of PTU (propylthiouracil) treated animals when compared to the controls.the level of protein synthesis on 45,55 and 65 days of age showed a significant derease (p<0.001,p<0.01 and p<0.001 respectively) in comparison to the controls.however no effect on non-endocrine organs, such as kidneys and spleen were observed.the determination of FSH and LH serum level and the comparison of results in the treated animals and controls revealed that LH levels were not significant when the animals were 35 days old,but from the age of 45-55 and 60-70 days.the values were significant(P>0.01 and p<0.001 respectively),when compared to the control groups.the FSH serum density showed a decline up to the 35 days of life (p<0.01) and since then showed an upwared increase up to the 56 days of age(p<0.01).however the onset of puberty in treated animals was delayed.this may happen due to up-regulation phenomena.
