Abstract
Breast cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women, largely due to limitations in early detection methods. While computed tomography (CT) scans offer advantages like cost-effectiveness, deep tissue penetration, and high spatial resolution, enhancing their sensitivity for early-stage breast cancer detection remains crucial. Recent advancements in nanotechnology have opened exciting avenues for targeted imaging using nanoparticles conjugated with tumor-specific ligands. The high expression of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptors in breast cancer cells makes GnRH analogs, such as triptorelin, promising targeting moieties. This narrative review explores the emerging potential of triptorelin-conjugated gold nanoparticles as targeted contrast agents for CT imaging of breast cancer. We discuss the principles of contrast enhancement in CT, the advantages of targeted nanoparticles, and the rationale for using triptorelin as a targeting ligand. Furthermore, we examine the potential of this innovative approach to improve early breast cancer detection and pave the way for more personalized and effective treatment strategies. This review highlights a promising new direction in breast cancer imaging with the potential to significantly impact patient outcomes.
